The Kingdom of Mitanni was a short-lived, yet powerful and influential Late Bronze Age Near Eastern empire that was dominant in its subregion from about 1500 to 1350 BC.
Mitanni (also Mittani or Hanigalbat) was a Hurrian kingdom in northern Mesopotamia from c. 1500 B.C.E.

“Mitanni” was actually the name of the kingdom, not the people, although the Babylonians and Assyrians referred to the kingdom and people as “Hanigalbat” and the Egyptians called Mitanni “Nahrina.”
Its heartland was the Khābūr River region, where Wassukkani, its capital, was probably located. Mitanni was one of several kingdoms and small states (another being Hurri) founded by the Indo-Iranians in Mesopotamia and Syria.
